How To Make A Dog Harness
Good day to all!
In this article I want to describe how to independently, extremely cheaply, simply and efficiently, produce harnesses for dogs. I once asked them to develop people who have not found a suitable option for sale. And now I liked the design in the shelter. "At the request of workers" lay out the manufacturing technology.
Not all shelter dogs allow you to cling to the neck, apparently remembering how they were caught, so braces are very necessary. And this very strong and easy, in the curtailed form is located in a fist. The dog is comfortable in it.
Here she is on a puppy:
The harness consists of 5 belts, one positioned horizontally, girdling the chest in front, with a total length of 85cm. It marks out the space for sewing everything else, as shown in the diagram below. All these points are indicated in red, squares 5x5cm. The square A1 is sewn to square A, B – to B1, and so on. The numbers on the belts are the length of sections in centimeters. The squares indicated by yellow are also 5×5 cm, but they are folded inwards, as if embracing a different belt, then it is all sewn. In the places marked in blue, metal parts are inserted into the back belt, covering the chest with a buckle, and in the upper belt, which is on the back with a ring for fastening the leash. These details can be found in the households, in the markets, "thousands of little things" and where everything is for craftsmen. The ends of all belts must be burned with a cigarette lighter so that they do not open.
Everything is stitched with nylon, you can use a surgical thread "eight", or even a fishing line, around the perimeter of the squares and crosswise along the diagonals. In general, better seams as much as possible, so stronger! Ring to use a suitable size, turned or welded. The buckle is better to take with two pins, it just fits the belt width 5cm, and then you do not have to hem the edge of the belt. It is impossible to cut through the fastening holes, let alone burn through! – the strength is ensured just by the integrity of the fibers, it is better to stick two nails between the fibers in two places and soak them with superglue around them 1 cm in diameter. At the same time turn the nails until the glue dries, then remove. And – voila! – holes are ready. And quite at the end, you can sew a loop around the buckle to retract the tip of the strap, and under the ring tongue, so that the dog is not rubbed.
But another design, the principle of assembly is the same, only the front belt covers the entire neck and its ends are joined at an angle of 90 ° to each other and are sewn to the lower belt that goes under the chest and also has a loop for threading the end of the rear belt. Three longitudinal belts are the same, if you insert rings into all of them, you’ll have a rideable option — for skijoring or weight pulling, for example.
And now some pictures showing clearly how what is being done. So the buckle is sewn:
So belts with rings sewn to the rear belt:
So, in the second variant, the ends of the front belt are sewn with the lower belt:
This is almost finished harness:
And this is a loop for the end of the belt and the tongue under the ring for the leash:
So the second option is put on the dog!
All this I did in size Zaya, it is the most medium for mongrel sizes.
You can lengthen the tail of the belt from 50cm to 70 to fit a large dog.
It would be nice to make a few pieces for the trade fair with printed
the shelter logo to replenish the dog piggy bank.
